I was reading a book on 1973-2006 "Muscle cars".

They had the 87 GN doing 4.9 0-60, and like 13.43.

I got to looking around other cars like a 2003 Cobra, 4.8 0-60 and 13.50.

Is this correct? Can an 87 GN do this? Stock for stock, Id think the Cobra would win..GNX was 4.7 secs.

stock for stock, on paper & real world the 03-04 supercharged cobras are faster than our beloved turbo bricks...but with a few tweaks... ;)

I think Car & Driver got a 0 - 60 time of 4.9 and 1/4 mile in 13.9 back when they tested the 86 GN. :) Granted it was like 4* degrees out when they tested it.

Someone on here must have the article scanned.

When I bought my GN it was 100% stock, down to the cat and air filter. Ran a string of 14ohs and a 14.2. Could have ran a high 13 I think if I could have gottin better traction. So it's NOT impossible. Most i've seen going back to when these cars were new ran 14.1-14.3's. Course a LOT depends on the driver too and air temp!!....;)

16 years of newer technology and were still comparable, Turbo Buicks are OK in my book. Mine went 14.0 bone stock on first pass:cool:

that 13.4 is probably misquoted from a GNX road test. And the 13.5 cobra is a dog. Hell the NA cobras are almost that fast. I have a friend that I watched run a 12.4# at 113 in a bone stock cobra( most are 12.8 at 110 cars). So on the street even with a bad launch a stock GN isn't much contest for a 03 and up cobra. Now a GT... that race is pretty close

Averages for the 1987 Turbo Buicks were between 13.7 and 14.3, remember there are alot of varibles, ie: driver, weather, track, etc. Same for the Cobras they vary. Both with minimal tweaks are fast cars. But as I said before the buicks were from the 80's technology.
