My buddy is helping me restore my GN. The backing plate where the cut out is for the rear wheel cylinders isslightly messed up. That is , the hole for the wheel cylinders is slightly enlarged and that makes the wheel cylinder (which is the larger S-10 ones) able to move a bit. The rest of the plates are fine. I sandblasted and painted them. I can get new ones for 30 -40 bucks each if I have to but I'm trying to keep theis as low budget as I can. I have another Regal but these are no better. Is there another way (cheap) to fix these? Does someone sell something to help out in that area? Need to decide quickly so the rear axle can be mounted into the frame soon. Thanks

Yes, you can buy clamps for the wheel cylinders, which make sure the cylinders can't move. I had to put them on my old Buick Sports Coupe.

Been a while, but they clamp from the cylinder to the backing plate. So if the backing plate is chewed up a bit and the brake cylinder is twisting, it'll stop the twisting motion. That is all i know!:)

Clamps sound like a good idea, however if you can't locate them, new 2 piece backing plates are available from most parts stores. You can install these plates without removing the axles.

HTH, Jim
