I am working on a frame off build and ran into an issue with the rear end. The rear end I was planning to use is in rough shape and the upper trailering arm mounts on the housing are looking pretty thin. I am trying to avoid having to get a new housing but am worried that the mounts will eventually break.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get the upper trailering arm mount on a rear end repaired or replaced? Or should I be looking for a new rear end?

Here are some pics of the mounts:

I believe it needs to return to its original job as a boat anchor.
Said to say it that way but I bet its got more problems with rust than the ears.

If the rear housing looks like that, I'm afraid to see the rest of the car.

Haha the car has a new body and frame. Not much left of the original car. We are just about done painting the frame.

in the pics the thin area by the bushing shell is the same on all 8.5s ,
just cave those bushing shells in, knock them out and replace them ..
i see a clamp style bushing tool . thats really not ideal for bushing replacement in the ears
the hrpartsnstuff tool makes changing those bushings much easier

All the 8.5 housings are thin where the bushings go in? We also have an 85 GN that is all original with a posi I was going to compare it to but the control arms are in the way.

Thanks for the info, I was using the u-joint press to get the rubber out of the bushing. I am going to sandblast the rear end and see what it looks like after that.

not all the way around just where you show in pic thats why the hrparts tool works easier being a bridge type puller with ears to get close to the bushing shell you can position it on the thicker part of the ear to pull the bushing out because besides the thin edge the housing gets in the way of barrel style puller
