:( Does anyone have a cure for the rear main seal leak. The engine is freshly overhauled with a neopreme rear main seal. Thanks for any suggestions,

Just purchased another GN a couple of months ago. The previous owner had the dealership replace the rear main seal. I started noticing a small leak come to find out it was the rear of the oil pan gasket leaking. someone had over tightened the oil pan and destoryed the gasket. I have a replacement gasket coming from Kirban's. If it is the rear main seal leaking I'm not aware of any quick fix...just make sure it is not the gasket leaking.

was the new seal installed the right way?Are the rubber shims on side of the bearing cap put in right?
Was there anerobic selaer put on the lower half of the bearing cap?
These are most common problems that will cause a leak.

If it is the rear main seal leaking, I'd just go in there and re-seal the main cap, leaving the original seal in place. I never use the side plugs. Pull down the cap and clean the grooves with lacquer thinner, re-install the cap and sqeeze the sealer (I use Permatex ultra grey) up into the grooves until it oozes out the in front and back. Install a new cork pan gasket. Let it sit over night before you put it back together. The job doesn't take that long, less than two hours, so no use letting it continue to leak. ;)
