Ok, I got a rear main seal leak.......I wanna know. How many of you guys have changed out your own. If you did change out your own.......did it suck so bad that you wished you would have paid someone. Is there a sticky somewhere that has a step by step process listed?

Bigboy- Been in your position before. Spend the few dollars and put in the dye into your oil and find the true source of the oil leak. I thougt my oil leak was the rear main seal-wrong- the dye shows the source. Think before you empty your wallet. Brad

I've been there before, but not with a Buick. There's nothing worse than changing the rear main seal and then discovering the leak was somewhere else.

im about to attempt this but before i do im going to try the dye i have done so much research on this topic but still have a question here is my question im having trouble understanding that once i get all the mess cleaned up and add the dye how will i know if its the rear main seal since its up inside the oil pan ? and the only way to know is by removing it rite so how will i b able to tell if its just the gasket or rear main seal?
