i know that you can put a 17x10" w/ 4-3/4" back spacing on the rear of our grandnationals, but can you put an 17x11" w/? what back spacing would you need? lets say with a 315/35R17 BF drag radials? or would this not be feasable? I ask becouse im thinking of buying those torq thrust II rims but i seems that they only get as wide as 17x9.5" then straight to 17x11" until you have to go 18's to get a ten inch wide rim, but then you can't have a drag radial.

Who knows?

You could notch the frame and it would look pretty cool with the 315's. I would guess around 5.25" backspacing with an 11" rim and the frame notched for clearance.

thanks

that sounds like a good idea, does any one secound that motion?

simple question, i asume a body shop would be the ones to go to on the frame notching i assume?

typo

that sentence was bad but it's three am here and i can't sleep
but for those who could not make sence of it, i'll try again,
i assume a body shop is the place to go for fame notching?

Not exactly the same, but I have 18x9.5" wheels on the rear with 5.5" backspacing and it works great for me (275/35-18 tires). I've said it before, but you can't go by everyone else's car in this area. Since the MAJORITY of people would say you can NOT fit more than 4" BS on the GN. You just have to measure your car and see what it will take. It seems every car is VERY different. And if you don't have your heart dead set on torque thrust wheels, there are MANY wheel manufacturers that will make your wheels per your desires. Boyd Coddington (where I got mine from) is a good example of that. So you could get the 17x10's with whatever off set you want....

just my 1 1/2 cents

i talked to the guy over at simmon's and this guy seems to be the real deal with his tire sizing on a gn, as he has done alot of custom jobs on these rigs. I was gonna go with his wheels, but i started to have this thing for these torq thrust IIs. So i have a budy that got the 17x10 w/4.3/4" backspacing on the rears, per simmon's recommandations. i haven't talked to him about the front wheel spec's and can't remember what simmons said about it, but i'll probably will call them on this too. if i remeber right the simmons on the ttype that won the one mile speed trap deal at over two hundred mph, had 13" rear simmons wheels, so i know if i want 11" there a way to make it work, and well, if you can go over 200mph on a 13"
but keep the addvice commin, there is alway more then one angle to consider, that one person can always miss, so together we are stronger

FYI.......also the 17x10 w/ 4.3/4" back space required that the rear lip on the fender to be rolled of removed
I would assume the same would in conjuction w/frame notching would be nessasery for the 17x11's

also the only reason that i don't just use 17's in front and 18x10's in rear which i think would look cool, is that i wanna still beable to use a drag radial, and they stop at 17" diam from nitoo and BF

More to it than??

FWIW, have MT 10.5 X 28" on C/L 8" rims w/ 4" BS, and a 3/16" spacer. Hit the frame.
Moved the outer rails in to near flush w/ inner. Removed the spacers and have plenty of room, given the rolling radius is 14". The inner wheel house is flush w/ the frame now and is the area that would contact a tire wider and taller than the 15x 28.
I think the outer lip and the inner wheel house sheetmetal is due for a move if you expect to have clearance that is safe w/ a 17" wheel and a FAT tire:( :(

thought id bring this thread back to life

im notching my car now which im moving the wheel tub in and taking right at 1 1/2 out of the frame rail

my buddy is notching his GN also to fit 315/35/17 bfg drag radials

first off 17 by 11 torqe trust wheels are special order only

he already bought the tires and we were test fitting them under my car and trying to figure out the best back spacing and best we come up with is 6" back spacing so he called up and ordered the rims which they said will be 2 months befrore he gets them ..:(

i must say them freeging tires are wide but very short

they are slightly wider at the tread then my 28/12.50 et streets are at the buldge

When you talk to the guy at Simmons, tell him you are a dealer and you will get the rims for $1700. compared to list price of $2150. Thats what I did. I have Simmons wheels on my GN, 8.5inx17 up front and 9.5inx17 in the rear. They look awsome and nobody else around here has them or even seen them. Simmons wheels take about 4 to 5 weeks to get, but they know their stuff, and they will fit perfect. Just my 3 cents (inflation you know) :) Tarey D.
