Rebuilding the tranny myself

I really can't afford a professional rebuild but have the time and (I believe) the know-how to do it myself. My friends all say to take pics of everything so that when I put it together I know where stuff goes. But I know it has to be more complicated than that. Plus, and clues as to why my car won't go over 20mph without seriously revving? Thanks for any and all help, guys.

Some seals and clutch steels look alike, but are of different thickness or have different numbers on them. If you bag and tag the clutch assemblies and rebuild them one at a time, you will save yourself some trouble.
