On performance build (good to low 11.20 or so) that is mostly street driven which is better in terms of longevity the reds or the blue clutches? I know blues have more grip but will they last 50k miles of street driving?
Thanks ahead of time Bruce!!

Hope so...

'cuz that's what I used in my direct clutch, didn't even think about longevity just that they were better bitting. So I hope the answer to your ? is yep! How 'bout it Bruce/Greg?

I don't yet have much personal experience with the red clutch in a 200-4R application as we have used the Blue Plates for some 10 years now. When the rest of the transmission is built correctly, the Blues will last a very long time.

We have had excellent results with red plates in the 700-R4 3-4 clutch location which is another tricky application like the 200-4R direct.

We are just beginning to use reds in 200s now. FWIW, SAE stepped power test results show that the Alto reds exhibit less wear than the Blues at higher power levels. The tests also indicate that the reds hold a more constant coeficient of friction at higher energly levels.

I believe Bruce has used red clutches in many street-oriented 200-4Rs so we can get his 2¢.

Ok...

This I still have trouble with. I even go round with Pete at Alto about this.
As far as I am concerned, Blue Plate clutch is the clutch for direct.
I have used Red in there too but my preference is the blue plate. I use the red in Forward and 4th. Overrun i like to use bone stock BW preferably NOS BW. In low reverse, any good lined grooved paper clutch is fine, and I have been using the BW only cause of well I got alot of them. The stock LR clutch used by GM was terrible and should ALWAYS be replaced tho. In transbrake applications only use the High Static Raybestos. They are great. You can use them in a non brake application too, but ahh, just not needed.
