who says Im a night owl

Its only 5:45 in the morning and I just come in from pulling an engine out of a GN and tearing it down

(girdled motors suck to take apart :D )

I was wondering why my ears were burning then I got a heads up about this thread so figured I'd come check it out

first things first

HIPSI : my older emails got taken over by loads of spam and I have so many spam filters on them I am probly not getting half my mail ..I just check the redsbdassel box even the deleted stuff and I dont see anything from you so the filters must have got you for some reason

I know I have some emails I havent replied to yet but I'll get to them soon as can be ...Like mentioned I have been loaded up and getting thru the holidays did nothing but back me up even more :(

second I have to thank all the ones that put out a good word for me ...now I can show the wife that I am good for something :D

third ..I dont know where to start to answer any questions you may have so post any direct questions and I'll try to answer

I can say there is no magic parts to my combo ..Like Bobby mentioned its alot of trial and error ... many many nights tweaking this or that and sometimes for no improvement

garret .82 is what I was running over 130 with at 29 - 30 # boost
the car was still not completly tuned in and 1 more outing with the major help of Eric at www.turbotweak.com and I would have had it nailed down

Eric is IMO the best anyone could ask for for a chip tuner .. there is no perfect first chip .I dont care what they claim.. yes they may run good but not to their best

My car has been apart for awhile Like mentioned before the budget over run me when it would break trannies on a regular basis then I had to start home improvements on my house which I have now sold and Im in a temporary location untill I find the right place ( going house hunting again after I get up today)

If I ever get time which probly wont be anytime soon I plan to give another shot at a cheap build and see what happens

If this pic shows up you will see I got lucky in pulling it apart when I did ...Im sure plenty will scratch their head looking at that pic ...theres over 6 hours of prep that I put into that crank now its a paperweight :( and yes its a stock crank :D

more later ..Im tired

i need to talk to you some time soon.... i may have a couple motors for you coming soon

Red,

Thank you for posting in this thread! I do have some questions for you that may also be of interest to other people.

1) Do you have any idea what your heads flowed?

2) How much do you charge to port iron heads and intake manifold?

3) Were you using a stock MAF w/ a 3" outlet K&N setup?

4) Did you ever try any cams other than the 204/214? I was considering either the Comp 212 or 218 flat tappet. Obviously, the 204/214 worked for you.

5) Stock throttle body?

6) Stock headers and crossover?

7) Were your Total Seal rings set up with the gapless ring on the top or 2nd groove?

I understand the hassles of shopping for a new home. I appreciate you taking the time to post in here.

1)max flow #'s arent everything .. low lift flow is what I shoot for .. a good combustion chamber seems to help also

2) prices on here are a no-no email for more info

3) yes stock gm maf with k+n style filter 3" pipe going to turbo.. 2.5" I/c pipeing

4) In my motor I did try one other cam but It lost a few lobes before I got any track time so I put my same old 204/214 back in it ..the other cam had better sound but did not feel as good to the butt dyno I cant remember the exact cam specs right off
(I dont use comp cams in anything)

5)62mm ported stock t/b stock upper plenum (no powerplate)

6) port matched factory headers and crossover

7) total seal gapless second rings

yes house shopping sucks ..I found something Im rather interested in today but I havent got any info on it yet but Im betting its out of my price range :( .. dont know yet but all Realestate is crazy priced now

Red looks like your gonna need a bigger shop and larger work force!!

i recently sold a mid 10 sec t-type that had a similiar combo to red's. 70 p-trim .82 housing, ported iron heads, 212-212, 496 lift flat tappet cam, ported intake and poted stock t-body and the other usual stuff. it went 10.64@129 mph, 26-27 psi, 3500#. oh ya, that was through a stock 3" (screenless) maf and 3" pipe with a Red A race chip. its all in the seat time and tuning.
