I dunno Chris...

While I agree that the track could use A LOT of improvments, I'm happy for what we have, and the fact that we have a track to run at, at all. I'm also happy that we pay only $8 to run.

The track has been improved A LOT since I used to run the 1/4 waaaay back when...Around '84 I believe. Back then, there was a return road that was full of pot holes, no grudge lanes, no circle, and NO TIMESLIPS! If you wanted to know what you just ran, you had to have a friend stand near one of the few loudspeakers at the track that were working! If there was a loud car running behind you, you could pretty much forget about knowing what you just ran. It would sound something like: "Tower lane (Vroom, Vrooooom, Vrooooooooooooooom)"..... :D

I guess the question to the racers would be - Would you rather have a better track, that would cost maybe $25 or so to run? Or would you rather keep it the way it currently is?... It's a trade-off....

I'm not sure which I would rather have.

Hey Chris,

I second what Geoff said, way back in the early '80s, the tracks was worst, wasn't that much lights around the grounds, no snack shop, bleachers
was wasted, hey really was a pit back then, just rocks, but i say that they have fixed up better than what i remember it was before, during Geoff's time:D ;) hehehehehe then again i guess it is a trade if you were really comparing to how the mainland is? who knows, but it doesn't hurt to try right:D

My Dad told me of the track back in his time. pretty much crap compared to what it is now from what he says. I started going to the track watching hrra races right around my intermediate term in school. from what i remember then and how it is now...nothing's really changed.

In that thread I'm speaking of general track improvements. not just the 1/4 strip but all of the track. not only would the 1/4 drag racers be affected but the circuit groups. Everyone's in that thread is biased on the 1/4 strip. but fact is..it is the most abused section of the track. I for one would think paying $25 for a street night could be worth it providing immediate action in improving the track. planning & developing. If I were to compare our track to mainland guys AND the process of getting there. I consider us pretty darn lucky its just a drive away instead of a journey to those on the mainland. Like how Clayton said, guys would have to book a hotel room or sleep at the track. stuff like that add up.

Yah, its a trade off. For guys like us where we head out there when we have time a higher price is bareable. but for those who constantly run near every weekend...I can see where it's gonna hurt the bank. As long as they dont charge just the spectators that amount...it wouldnt scare them off as well.

I for one would like to see the conditions of the track improve.

I agree with Geoff too. The track IS A LOT better than before. I remember those Pot holes & verbal time slips:D

I remember the bad old days too, and must agree that it's far better now. Sorry if it seems like we're ganging up on you Chris, but the track was a real dump 20+ years ago, and has improved greatly in recent years.

I would, however, like to see the second turn-off opened and maintained, since there are so many frighteningly quick cars now. It would be nice to have the option of a longer shut-off area for those who need it. If it's a matter of manpower, maybe we and other local clubs can volunteer for a track clean-up day and donate some time to improving our track, rather than griping on the internet.

back when I was pretty tight with the former owner of SH, i suggested that SH have a cleanup day for the track. some sort of beautification project. Kinda like a big party for those who wants to help, Sound DJ and all. just to get people to come out and help. I dont know what ever happend. they followed through for a while then it never happend. prolly because steve (founder of SH) sold it to Farid. their's all sorts of political BS going behind the SH doors.

Sounds like a good idea!

I'm sure that most of us would gladly donate some time.....

Why not see if you can make it happen? :)

Remember, that it is ALWAYS easier to attract bees with honey, than with vinegar.....;)
