removing input check valve

Any tips on removing the input shaft check valve ?
Tried expanding it like suggested in transgo non lock kit, but it just slid back into shaft.

There is a land that will only let it go so far. I just use an EasyOut and knock it down into it until it grabs and then pull it out with a pair of ViceGrips on the end of the EasyOut while slightly twisting to the left. Takes about 15 seconds.

Transgo instructions are of little help.
Ended up making a hook for a slide hammer & pulling it out.
