Hi guys, posted this in the wrong section so....
Just replaced turbo (stock for stock), also fitted new o2 sensor and put a screen into the stock MAF (previous owner had o screen).
Driving down the road the car feel like it has a brick under the throttle and doesent want to rev. Will rev in neutral ok.
I had the battrey disconnected, if that has had any affect?

Basically, the car will not produce boost. Could I have a) an error in the wastegate fitting (I didnt adjust it at all)?
b) could the chip have reverted to a valet setting on strat up when connecting the battrey?

Any suggestions welcome, i must have missed something obvious!

Did you hook up the wastegate hose correctly? The "y" restricted side goes to the turbo compressor. You did hook the wastegate back up to the puck right?

Thanks,I'lldouble check, butI kept all the hoses 'as was' when i took of the wastegate. I then reconnected the hose to the compressor as you refer to and then connected the remaining free hose to the solenoid. I left the hose connected to the wastegate when i removed it puposely so I could replace it as i found it.

I'm just wondering if the ECM/Chip has gone into limp mode when i disconnected the battrey. That would explain it potentially, the car runs and idles nicely as long as i keep under 40mph!

Guys, i'm really stuck!
I replaced the turbo in the exact reverse of removal. Wastegateis connected correctly and in closed position at idle. The hoses to compressor, wastegate and solenoid are correct.
I drive down the road and the car will not build any boost. Effectively, i'm stuck at third throttle and 30mph or so.

Could it be an ECU issue, i did have the battrey disconnnected whilst performing the turbo replacement.

Only had the cat 3 weks and i cant even use it:mad:

Maybe catalytic converter is clogged up? Try disconnecting the wastegate solenoid and see if the car will build more boost, BUT make sure you are careful doing this!!you don't want the car to over boost, keep an eye on your boost guage, I hope is accurate, no more than 15 lbs. of boost on 93 octane for this test.

Also check for any exhaust leaks when you changed the turbo, like the header flange where the turbo bolts up, check your intercooler hoses and make sure they're on right and tight! The turbo wheel does spin freely by hand right? just some things to check out.

Have you checked to see if the puck is making a good seal to the exhaust housing? If it is not you will not build boost.

Is your wastegate actuator adjustable? If it is try to tighten it up so that you have to pull it over the puck arm to install it. Once you do this take it for another ride and slowly ease into boost.

OK guys, i'm at my wits end. I checked all of the above, even took the downpipe and wastegate part of the turbo off. Resealed everything, checked the wastegate was closed as the arm is adjustable, and it is closed.

Drove the car and cant get more than 20mph, feels like the chip will not let me drive the car. Idles real nice but wont drive out.
Before i replaced the turbo the car smoked the tyres and ran hard and now, well its parked out the back and i dont know what else to do.

Stock MAF which i replaced tonight (had a spare), no change.
I believe that the chip is an old Kennie Bell type.
I phoned the previous owner to check, but he's not answering the phone.

Started the car just now, put it in drive and tried to build revs and boost. Nothing. Car wont rev when in gear, only in neutral.

I understand that you checked to see if the wastegate was closed but did you check to see if the puck was sealing the hole in the turbo exhaust housing?

Take a look at the attached picture. The part that the wastegate actuator attaches to controls the puck. I would remove the turbo exhaust elbow (that holds the puck) and put some metal marker or grease onto the surface of the puck. Bolt the elbow back on and connect the wastegate actuator. The metal marker or grease will put a round mark on the turbo exhaust housing. This mark that the pucks leave should cover the entire hole in the exhaust housing..if it does not you found your problem.

Thanks for posting the pic, I did check, but not in the specific manner you suggest. I'll try again.
Meantime, spoke o the previous owner, the chip has no setting that oul default to low rpm, so it has to be a problem with the turbo install. I'll repott back

Well, it was the flapper. That was the good news, bad news is that the turbo is bad and smokes under boost. Now in the market for upgrade, TE4, TE49?

wow man that was extremely nice of you to post, AND your helped solve his problem! CHEERS BUDDY this sip of my Virtical Epic, from Stone Brew in San Dieago is dedicated to you.

Yes indeed! Without support from these forums and their contributors these cars would be hard to maintain. Here in the UK there are only 4 that I know of:eek:
