I need to replace the oil cooler in the rad side tank. It is a Griffin copper core rad just like the stock one. What is involved with this? Is this something that a specialty shop has to do? Is the oil cooler a std item or special to GN? How much should I expect to pay? Thanks

Hi Paul,
Check with your local radiator shops and see if they can help.
These coolers aren't easy to come by and most agree that they can't be flushed out.
Another way is to just eliminate it and use an external oil cooler from Summit or Jeg. If you don't already have an external tranny cooler, there are dual coolers available with fan.

Thanks Gary, do you or anyone else know if there is a specific cooler that will fit the existing cooler hoses? I already have a tranny cooler so I don't need a combination one. Where would a single cooler mount and what type hose connections should it have?

With all the trouble of trying to get my in-tank oil cooler replaced I decided to go with an external one.
What have you guys installed and where did you mount it? I would like to use this boards experience on what has been proven to work. Thanks

I bought the Permacool 8"x11" with the fan and mounted it under the battery on the passenger side. It is just big enough to fit under there without any major headaches. You will have to make up some type of mounting system though.

I wired the fan so it comes on with the rad fans and so that when the rad fans go to high speed, so does the oil cooler fan. I also got the oil thermostat to keep the oil hot enough cause this thing looks like it will overcool!:D

I was going to run it to its own switch but then I might forget to turn it on...;)

Does anyone else have any proven ideas on oil coolers and installation? Please....

Several of us have done what Crazi describes above.

I tried mounting it in the center behind the license plate but it did not make it up my driveway. :D
