the ta-33c is about the only turbo you can go to. some call it a ta-49 but its really a ta33. how far can it go. probley 11. something

with what other supporting mods? i currently have a built bottom end as of now

Built? What kinda of heads, what cam, what compression, what's done with the intake, what headers etc

The TA33 supports the same compressor wheel as the TA49 (T04E-60 trim).
The TA49 has a T3-76 Trim turbine wheel and I think the TA33 has the same wheel.

So far the guy that builds all of my dads engines is the one doing it hes said to be changing cam, forged pistons, forged rods and porting the heads and im going with a ported 87 intake since im swapping it over to IC. I can give you exact specs as soon as he finishes it and sends me the reciepts with all specs on it

Heads are ported stockers until i can get advice on some better ones, Cam not sure of at this moment the guy thats building the engine builds all my motors and when he is done he gives my the reciepts and specs on everything he just told me not to worry itll be fast enough if not we can always make it faster lol. Going to port the stock intake and not sure on headers right now. I was thinking of converting over to IC but got bashed on so hard on the forums i decided not to mention it anymore and just do it since i couldnt find any decent advice and a few ppl going off on me lol o well each to its own :p but as soon as i get the specs i will let you know all it consists of! :)

so would there be a big difference between the two?

If you change to an 86/7 style intake...

The ta49 would be a better choice probably. You would have to move the throttle body off the turbo and put it in the intercooler pipe path or on the front of the intake like the factory 86 setup.

The ta49 is more widely available, will definitely handle your proposed power goals and can be mounted in the stock hotair location if you want to (there are no hood clearance issues).

If the throttle body will be on the turbo still you can get larger hybrid turbos built ($$$$), but they must retain the carbon seal backing plate and carbon seal so oil is not sucked through the turbo seal into the intake.

Just remember with bigger cams and turbos come other combination changes (torque converter etc). I am not an expert on that subject and you can probably talk to dusty Bradford for advice in that area.

Anymore questions can be asked to me and I'll try to answer them. I really could care less where the turbo is and if your car has an intercooler on it.

Anyways have fun and good luck.

How would i go about moving the throttle body into the ic pipe path or for the better half leaving it hot air would i have to still move it? I def want to keep it in the HA location and mabey add custom piping to run intercooler in front but keep turbo in stock location. And i will most likely be adding alky if it stays hot air! Thanks for your help and advise

Well if your going to put on an 86/7 intake...

The easy way is to get / make a modified plenum that attaches to the intake and then run a 86/7 throttle body such as the setup on my car and 6 to go's setup.

My setup: http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/hot-air-non-intercooled-tech/318133-gonna-debut-bg-but.html

6 to go's setup: http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/ho...-tech/318396-accufab-plenum-86-intake-ic.html

There are other approaches such as the setup on cool84's car where he used the hotair throttlebody inline with his intercooler pipe and then ran the pipe into the hotair intake via an adapter elbow that comes with the spearco front mount kit, or can be fabricated.

Cool84's setup: (was going to do mine like this until I started to weigh the benefits of the better flowing 87 style intake (some may disagree)): http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/ho...en-here-while-heres-why.html?highlight=cool84

Either way you go I would recommend putting the throttle body on the pressure side simply because "my car" saw great improvements in idle quality and drive-ability with a larger than stock cam.

awesome i will check those out tonight so this turbo would be right for the goals im trying to get to?like i mentioned before i will add alky later on oh yeah and whats a safe boost level to start out at im gonna get the 86-7 ecm with TT chip just want to know a safe level to start tuning at. thanks

Ok, before i post what excatly are doing with your car? you have posted

"Going to port the stock intake"

then posted "I was thinking of converting over to IC but got bashed "

then you posted "i decided not to mention it anymore and just do it "

then talking about TB location "How would i go about moving the throttle body into the ic pipe path "

then you posted turbo location "I def want to keep it in the HA location"

then "mabey add custom piping to run intercooler in front but keep turbo in stock location"

Then "And i will most likely be adding alky if it stays hot air"

so are you going with the 86/87 conversion? are you staying with the hotair step-up? are you putting a intercooler on the hotair configuration? are you putting a 87 intake on the hotair motor and keeping the turbo in the back? what are you doing since you have posted all of these?

waco84gns setup with a TA49 upgrade hot air location with ic made up my mind so what advice do you have for me?? Its the setup he posted the first link to since the TA49 will meet my goals i dont want to have something i cant get any use out of. Will be adding alky in the mix but that will be further long in the future.

Now i know i saw the TA49 upgrade on one of these vendors but i cant find it now!!! anyone know one of the vendors that do i forgot to save as a favorite thanks guys

thanks i couldnt remember for the life of me where i saw the uprgrade at thanks a ton!

What's your goal. 12.00 and slower can be done cheaper then what your going to do.

low 11's in the quarter and low 7's in the 8th all we have around here local is 8th mile so from what i have heard about these turbos ill have something capable of reaching those goals. what you think?
