Reverse lights...strange issue

Help guys...when I put my Buick in reverse, the reverse lights flash...but do not stay on. What would cause this strange issue??
Anybody have a solution??

Thanks Salvage...these diagrams are great. Can you simply explain, once I'm under there, what I have to do.
Which way do I turn the "Gear Selector Switch"? Is that the white half moon looking switch?

That's the switch, I have no idea which way it has to be moved it's usually a two person job.

Put the car in reverse(car doesn’t need to be running) parking brake on just in case, do the dance between the shifter handle & the switch.

You’ll know when ya got it right. The reverse lights will come on when needed & go out when needed(with the correct shifter handle position).

Two people do make the job a bit easier though.

You have to move the shifter to the correct spot & adjust the switch accordingly.

Once you try you’ll see.
