Has anyone ever installed a power seat on the passenger ( right ) side?...I would have liked to see pictures of your completed installation...:)
I'm in the middle of installing one in my Gn, and the only thing keeping me from finishing the job right now is that I'm missing some of the black plastic trim pieces ...( Anyone can help me on this? :D )Everything bolts right into place, the only minor change is to reverse the wiring to the motors so the track moves in the same way the buttons are pushed, because since the switch is supposed to be mounted on the left side, moving it on the right causes the track to operate the opposite way the switches are pushed...that's all...:)
Claude :)

If some of you have done such an installation, show us a few pictures please!...Thanks!

Dennis Kirbin (Grand News publisher and parts vendor) did one a few years ago. I seem to remember he used the seat track and lower seat trim from a Caddy Citeria (sp?).

Cadillac Cimarron's could be had with a power passenger seat and that is where the seat trim/switch housing was sourced from. You cant use the power tracks unless you need replacement motors/parts. The J body power tracks are different since the floor pan shapes are different between the J body and G body.
I believe Pete Serio (?) was the one who used to do the swaps for Kirban when the parts were still available from GM. They have long since been discontinued. Problem is trying to find a Cimarron in a junk yard now. I have found probably a dozen and out of all of them, only 2 had the power passenger seat. But this is the piece that is crucial to the swap as you need it to mount the switch. The tracks and switch are just driver side ones relocated.
The G body tracks are symetrical as long as the tracks are from a bucket seat car. Bench seat tracks have a slight offset to them that would have the passenger seat sitting funny.

Power seat reply...

I figured out the switch problem...I'm a perfectionist and I want it to be as close as possible as if the factory really offered it...
For the wiring :
-first start by reversing the wires in the connector that plugs into the single motor that moves the seat from front to rear ( that's all you need to do for that one...nothing else needed).
- second, reverse the wires in each of the connectors of the two remaining motors ( these are the ones that tilt the seat in front and back), and when this is done then, interchange them between the two motors, and THAT'S ALL!!
My track works perfectly as if the factory made it that way!
As for the plastic ''switch panel'' that houses the switches which is fixed on the side of the passenger seat, matching the one on the driver side, it DOES exist. It's GM part# 29319408, but quite hard to find!!... It was originally installed in Cadillac Cimarron's. Only the switch panel is needed as the Cimarron's track itself will not fit our Regals...You need to use a track from a G body (Regal) althoughf it was originally mounted on the left side, it will fit on the right side too. You can put the switch in front of the seat as I have seen some guys have suggested, (but that's a ''fix''...not the way the factory would have put it!)...It makes a much nicer job to put it on the side of the seat, where it belongs, for a real ''factory'' looking installation!...

Thanks,
Claude. :)

P.S: There is a nice picture of such an installation in ''Kirban's Guide to 1986 and 1987 BUICK TURBO REGALS'', on page 179, which was done by Pete Serio...(You were right ''GNVAIR'')

I'll be doing this sometime soon as well. I'm doing both driver and passenger. I'm going to pull both and do them both at the same time. Don't know when I'm going to do it but I'll post some pictures and what I did when I do! :)

Reply to ''phillyturbosix''...

''phillyturbosix'', That's what I did too...My car did not have any power seat at all when it came out of the factory, but I always wanted one, so I did the driver's side two years ago and never regretted it...It took time to gather all the right parts ( track, switch, mouldings, wiring), but I think that time and patience is a very important ingredient here if you want a ''factory installed'' result! :) Now I'll be doing the passenger's side, although I'm aware that it was never offered by GM, but it's definitely possible to do a ''factory installed'' looking job.
I'll try to post some pictures as soon as I finish the job, but it can take a little while because the car is still stored for the winter time...:(

Claude :)
