The machine shop re-sized my stock rods using arp rod bolts. When I assembled the shortblock I was afraid the arp grease on the rod bolts was contaminated with metal, so I cleaned them off and dipped them in motor oil before torquing them down. What do you guys use on the rod bolt s before torquing and if oil is used, do I torque to the same spec as specified by arp using "ARP assembly" grease. Thanks turbo6man

When I had my motor rebuilt I picked it up from the machine shop and cleaned everything twice!!!I cleaned the ARP lube off my rod bolts and then applied some more to the threads. I torqued them per ARP specs at 50 ft. lbs., the same torque the machine shop used....I've heard motor oil is pretty poor for lubrication of rod bolts, mains, etc...At least I would go to an auto parts store and buy some moly-based lube and use on the threads of the rod bolts....I guess with the moly lube there is less friction between the threads which gives a better torque reading versus motor oil...HTH.....
