I'm currently building my motor now. And I would like to go with a roller cam. My question is: Could I use my ported/big valve stock heads or do I have to go with afermarket heads. I'm looking to reach mid ten's. Or Should I stay with a flat tappet. But I dont have the $$ to do heads and roller set up. Give your opinion on this please. Thanks Carlos

this is just my 2 cents worth but if your going to drive the car on the street IMO do NOT put aluminum heads on the car. A decent set of ported stockers will take you where you want to go. Also you dont really need a roller hell a friend of mine went 9.96 without on in a 109 motor :D. Just go with a 204/214 and go racing

Most of the new roller cams will work fine with stock iron heads. Comp Cams has very nice kits that seem to work great in our cars. I would recommend either adjustable roller rockers or push rods so you can the cold lash and you are done.

I listed a friends ductile roller cam in the for sale section a couple days ago. It's a 214-214 comp cam with barely any miles on it at all, less than 100 for sure. He's building a new motor and went with a different set-up so he's selling this. It is the cam, lifter's, and bee-hive springs with retainers for $600 if your interested.

If I didnt go with a roller set up, that is my #1 choice. I will be driving the car on the street. New question. Should I girdle the bottem end? The motor has billet center caps now. Thanks Carlos

well remember that if you do a roller setup, all of the supporting mods must be done ,like shorter pushrods, t/d rockers, and machining the heads to fit those same rockers ect. point is that all the supporting stuff also costs a bit to.

Im actually in the process of buliding 2 tsm motors on will have billet caps one will have a girdle.....IMO (agian take it however you want it  ) if you already have caps I wouldnt bother puting a girdle on it. As long as you keep a good tune with little to no knock at all it should last.....hell a friend of mine is runing 10 30s with a 300k STOCK shortblock the damn thing even has the orginal oil pump lol Just trow it to getter and go racing :D
