Round Ball under charcoal canister

Can someone tell me what the round ball is for that is bolted under the drivers side fender directly under the charcoal canister ?

It is your vacuume reserve,to work things for a short time after you shut down the car.

What things would it work after shut down ?

What problems might I experience if I removed it ?

My vacuum reservoir fell off and the cruise control stopped working and my A/C vents didn't work very well. The heat would come on everytime I got on the gas too.

Unless it is a racecar, leave it in.
