Well if the alcohol system you have doesnt flow enough volume to suppress the knock retard, then you have but no choice to run additional octane via race gas, xylene, etc...
If your kit flows enough volume whereas your at zero KR, then adding race gas wont make the car any faster.
So unless you have a compelling story whereas the car blows 35 PSI boost, a properly executed alcohol system will suppress the detonation.
I will say its very possible to run the extra octane and be able to add more timing into the mix. Tho this will require a different tune-ep than what the car is accustomed too.
Hows this for an example, my TTA at 24 PSI boost on C12 will start seeing KR using a race chip. Yet on alcohol i've blown past 30 PSI without KR on a lower timing chip. Why becuase of inadequate IC, turbo, etc... The air temps coming into my motor at 24 PSI exceed 200 degrees, and its just too hot for the motor to function without KR. Spray alcohol into the air.. drop the temps.. I can now run much higher boost..hope you see where this is going. But you must "thoroughly" saturate the incoming air.. to make the majic happen.
Another example, Your car has a huge liquid-to-air IC, running 10 bags of ice in a chest, circulating ice cold water through the IC, you run a turbo thats efficient for the boost you want to run, and a motor that breathes well so the air doesnt stack up inside it. Alcohol in a setup like this has little benefit cept for adding some points to the gas. Actually can even be a problem unless finely misted due to temps leaving the IC not going over 40 degrees.. and 50 is needed to "flash" the alcohol..
Yes they can work together, but running gas mixes compromises the tune you give your car. Becuase changes in octane change the timing requirments.
As Red Regal T pointed, the reason for doing this is to get away from running on race gas. Make your system work.. then you wont blow the money on race gas. Save it and get more mods.. instead of burning it.
