what does this do for our cars?
Im not getting how it will reduce detonation
or make boost levels lower

Fill me in please!:)

Thanks,
Bo

they may not reduce detonation, but they can reduce boost.......and make more power

boost you are seeing is nothing more than backpressure (air that isn't getting through)... ported heads facilitate that flow of air and will reduce boost required to make a given amount of power...(more air is flowing vs getting restricted)

less boost "sometimes" will equal less detonation...more likely, you are thinking of aluminum heads which will reduce detonation because of better heat dissipation and cooler combustion chambers

so, should i even go with ported irons?

My goals are to drive my car every weekend and run low 11's
with stock block.

If I were to put ported irons on my car, how many psi would I lose with a decent port?

I think i need an annalogy on this one

11s on irons

My car will run 11s all day long on radials here is my combo. Stock block 30 over TRW pistons 208-210 cam 009s big neck i/c 400 turbo trans 308 gears and a 62 on 27 psi 11.87 at 118. This combo made 413hp and 525ftbs to the wheels. This is my old combo waiting for times on new combo with a 200r4 3200 stall t66 55s and a front mount 456hp and 607ftbs hopping for 10s on slicks.

if you really want to run low 11's and drive the car, you'll need something like I have.........do you really want that? you can run mid-high 11's with a lot less stuff and breakage

BTW, I run 22-24 lbs boost with my car

ported irons or GN1's will be required for your low 11 car

We've had some major head debates here lately. I would suggest going back through the board to early July, and read these different discussions. Alot of good info has been passed around, and many opinions have been shared. I typically agree with what "azGN" says. He seems to have all his ducks in a row, when it comes to GN knowledge. To expand on his head analogy, I always try to explain it to someone as this; A motor is nothing more than a big air pump. The goal is to get as much air in, and as much air out, as freely as possible. Therefore, ported heads will help you tremendously! And, if you are going to drive the thing alot, stick with the ported irons. I have a beautiful set of the Champion CNC's, which I highly recommend,,, but you can rest assured that no sooner than I post this, some of my fellow turbo bretheren will come back with their ported iron suggestions. Either way, we usually agree that a good set of ported irons will get you into the mid to high 10's if need be, and certainly support low 11's! They will also allow for daily driver durability, with no hassles. Go back and read some of those threads I mentioned, and also be prepared for a plethora of responses to this one. Before you do any of this, make sure your fuel system is upgraded and able to support above and beyond your initial needs.

what breakage my car has been together for over two years without any trouble other than the trans do to a bad converter. And i have also made trips from birmingham to bristol and raced and trips to pigeon forge both ever 800 mile round trips. Dont get get me wrong I am not saying mine is the best set up because my car is built on a budget I am just saying it works for me. Also my are done by myself so I am shure they could be better. Just my 2 cents.
