when i put in my extender chip, i gained two data readings, injector pulse and somthing els, but i lost some also. i no longer have malfunction code reading, and i think somthing else went away too.

is this the way its suposto be???

Yes, basically it depends on what data stream you ordered with the chip. There are several, and I'm embarassed to admit it, but I've lost the link to the page that shows them. Someone will jump in here soon with a link to that page, I'm sure.
It shows what data is available with each of the various data streams.
 
You should have gained injector pulsewidth (PL) and spark advance (SP), and only lost the malfunction code (MAL), assuming its the "W" patch. Also, the O2 and knock update rate is much faster.

You can still retrieve codes the old fashioned way by jumping the two aldl pins and the engine light will "blink" the codes to you.
