I'm looking to purchase a Scan Master. Are there different brands or types of Scan Masters for an '87 GN? If so what is the best one or type to purchase? Thanx

want the 2.1 for the tuneability it offers w/the p/l. Next to the stand alone management systems, I don't believe there is a better product out there.:cool:
I wasa so impressed by it, when Bob announced it's release I bought the p/l and s/m together. Yep, they're still sitting in the boxes they were delivered in!:eek::redface::biggrin:

It allows you to log what your engine is doing when your driving so you can look over it later to help you tune. Its probably something you don't need right now if ever but they only sell the 2.1 scanmaster so the option is there if you need it. The only way to get the 2.0 is to find it used.
 
Power logger

Is this a seperate instrument to purchase or does the 2.1 maybe have a port where you could plug in a laptop computer to use as a power logger?? :confused:
 
The Power Logger is a unit which attaches to the factory computer. I has the ability to display the current readings the car is seeing from sensors on a laptop. I has the ability to send a signal to the Scanmaster to display the same readings but at a faster rate than the Scanmaster can do alone through the data link connection under the dash. The Power Logger comes with a chip that makes it work with the Scanmaster so it will read 2.2 instead of 2.1.

I would buy the Scanmaster first unless you don't mind lugging the laptop around all the time. The Scanmaster will show you knock retard, 02 readings, voltage, coolant temp, TPS, IAC, BLM, INT, mass air flow readings and a few other things. However, it will only record the peak knock retard and Lowest oxygen sensor readings after two seconds of wide open throttle and the MPH when they occured.

Power logger is great for tuning since you can record a run and review it later. The Scanmaster is like a radar detector. Its there all the time to give you a chance to save the engine or alert you of issues when the laptop and powerlogger are not there.
