Well, I just screwed up my overrun housing big time!

I am pretty sure I bent the thrust surface side of the housing trying to press the bushing out. I'm about fed up with the stupid bushings, how the #%# are you supposed to get these things out??

I'm about ready to give up on this mess. If I can't change the bushings I'm screwed. I thought the O/D planet bushing was going to be hard, I haven't even attempted getting that out yet.

I guess I should've just left the things alone...

I just used a bushing/bearing driver, a block of wood shaped to fit inside the hubs, and a hammer. Worked fine.

One time I tried to use a new bushing to drive to old bushing out while installing the new. The new one took a little abuse - I had to dress it up with a tiny file.

Bushings

I think that's where I messed up, I supported it on the outside edges of the drum. I wouldn't have done it that way had I known how tough it'd be to press out.

It does only come out one way right? I was pressing from the front to the back as it goes in the tranny.

Do not remember which way it comes out - seems like many, if not all, could be removed from either side but it also seemed like one side would usualy present its self as the better side to work on.

Got it!

Well, I pulled the housing out of my other tranny's parts to try it. This time I made sure I was resting it on the shaft not the edges of the housing itself. Got the bushing tool in and pressed on it until it broke free, with a nice "pop," and it pressed right on down fairly easy then.

Cleaned it and pressed the new one in from the backside. I pressed it until the weld side of the housing just lined up about middle way in the valley between the rear too seals on the input shaft when it was slid all the way against the bushing. That was the best I could gather from the ATSG picture.
