I'm having my driver seat repaired. When I removed the seat tracks, there was a little rust on the carpet from the seat track rusting a little. Nothing major and it's probably just from humidity in the air and time. I am treating the seat tracks with some acid to kill the rust but would like to put a barrier on them to keep it from happening again. I was thinking Plastidip but I worry it would stick to the carpet. I also thought of coating them with some clear polyurethane I have (Minwax). Just anything that would isolate them. I even thought about cutting up an old license plate to use as a shim/barrier.

Mine are in the same condition. I plan on cleaning them with a scratch pad, spray can etch prime & paint with spray can semi-gloss.

Why not clean and spraypaint? A few coats should keep them nice for a long time especially if they car is now in the garage.
