If you're bored with the GN, mod it to what you want or get rid of it. I'm bored with my GTO, so I'm getting rid of it.

I cought the GTO bug just last week. I was thinking of consolidating my GN and my '05 Saab 92X into a '06 GTO. I haven't driven one yet, but I was kind of let down when I opened the trunk. The damn gas tank is in it. Since I have a wife and a 15 month old boy I need enough space to pack luggage incase we take the family for a trip in the car. I then started reading up on LS2GTO.com about what I feel is a high frequency of spun bearings, piston slap issues, and high oil consumption. Also, the kbb.com value for the '86 GN went way up this year. I'll wait until next year and hopefully be pleasantly suprised on where the '87 GN's value will go.

well my point of view is that your GN has 30k on it ... obviouslly you don't use it that much ... move on  I am in the same boat but I am just getting tired of Buicks .. before I get the whining an bitching  ..how many of you have had these cars since 1986 and were your only cars till the late 90's  :p

I agree with Grumpy. You don't drive the GN much, so if your looking for a fun car that you can drive now and 'probably' go up in value, get a GTO. Tuff decision. Good luck.........Kenny

Exactly, My GN is so perfect it is quickly turning into a trailer queen.

I do not want it to, but iam so scared something is going to happen to it since it is so immaculate.

Same thing happened to my 67 Vette, started as a driver.. but since the BB vette prices are in 6 figures I am scared to take it out.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you have had 3 ZR1's a Z06 and a Viper and you think the GTO is FAST there must have been something wrong with your previous 5 cars. We are in the market to buy a GTO and have driven several and they have real nice power but no where near the level of the other cars you've had. It's about the same power level ( as far as how it feels ) as my 98 WS6 Trans Am. That's not knocking the car at all, I mean we want one bad but it's a heavy car. Now had the GTO been around 3600-3700lbs, that would be a different story.

Nothing was wrong with my other cars,

The point I was trying to make was the GTO does not get enough credit.

The ZR-1's and zo6's and Vipers.. yea they are fast, but everyone knows that. They get the credit they deserve.

The GTO is fast and does not get any credit, for the most part because of the exterior looks.

Speaking of ZR-1, that is another bug I got this week. Friend got a 95 ZR1 made me want another one.

Then again every previous car I've had I would love to get another of, for the exception of the Viper.... no desire for another one.

I have a 66 Shelby Mustang convert ..been sitting since 1976 (28k on it I think ) BUT I have had other cars that were more fun :p

Good points. I believe that they are just cars, and while some may appreciate (Dan's Shelby is a good example) why not just take it out and enjoy it?

Fact: We are all going to eventually die.
Fact: We don't know when.

My suggestion to keep the GN is due to my own experience of getting out of the cars, then hearing that unique exhaust sound drive by- and me kicking myself for selling.

Well, let me throw in a couple of thoughts, in no particular order:

1. Based on this board and others, seems to me there are a fair number of TR guys who also own the new GTO. As a matter of privacy I won't name names.

2. The new GTO clearly would not be a good choice if you're looking for a big trunk - lol!

3. Some folks take pleasure in simply owning a car, whether they drive it or not. There's no right or wrong way - it's whatever floats your boat. I can say that as the years have gone by I'm more and more "concerned" about driving my GN. No reflection on other drivers and thieves though - hehe!

4. I love TRs as much as anyone, but to hate on other cars because I love TRs is just ignorant IMO. Most folks who hate the new GTO do so because they're put off by its styling. In many cases they are simply echoing what they've heard from the rags and old GTO crowd. Most have never driven one. The new GTO has it shortcomings and quirks, like any car, but it is a fine car. Hell, what's wrong with an LS1 or 2, a Tremec T56 and a Dana IRS, for starters? The 05s/06s are trapping high 12s with sticky rubber alone. You know, we all know the litany of things that drive us crazy about TRs, and they are 20 years old now. Time marches on.

I see your point, thanks for clarifying.

Ya need them both!

I wouldn't sell a mint low mile GN to get a new GTO, but I do like mine.

Keep the GN and buy the GTO to put next to it.

That's what I did, bought the wife (she thinks) an 06 GTO a couple months ago and it is a nice car.

Took it to a local 1/8 mile track and had it running 8.6s dead stock, better than the modded LS1 firebird that was there running 8.8s LOL.

Well, since you're asking about selling your GN on a TR board, you had to figure you would get some "Don't do it!" replies.

I've got an '06 Spice Red M6 GTO (just got it a couple of weeks ago) and still have my GN. I love both of them.

But, if you are in a position that you have to sell the GN to get something else, then do what YOU feel is best for YOU. Don't let people on here sway you - it's your money and your car.

And they are just cars. You can probably get a great price for the GN. Will it be worth more in 5 years? Sure it will. Will the GTO go down in value when you drive it off the lot? Sure it will. But what will make YOU happy?

In 20 years, I'm betting the GTO's will be just as valuable as the GN's are now. They only built less than 15,000 per year so there aren't a lot of them out there to begin with.

GTO's - especially the LS2 models ('05 and '06) are monsters. Sure, they have some shortcomings but as you have obviously found out - they are very nice and powerful cars with interiors that are second to none and a drivetrain that is incredible.

Do what YOU like. That way, you'll enjoy it more. Good luck.

I am probably going to keep the GN, and wait to see what the new GTO wil be like which is expected to come out in 07.

My lease is up in a few months on my SL, so I might keep my GN and make a GTO my DD.

Just so's you know Matt, the next GTO is rumored to be coming out in late 2008, as a 2009 model. And you know how rumors go. Especially GM rumors these days...

Evidently, there will be no 2007 or 2008 GTO.

FYI dude that GNX you are talking about is not real. That was just some photoshop someone did with creative writing.

I love my GN - no question about it.

But man, this GTO is one awesome car.
