What do you guys think, should i sell my WE4? I really want a ram air T/A. I've wanted one for about 4 years now and the only way i could get one would be to sell my turbo t. I figure if i can sell my car with all the extra parts for around 9k then i could use that for a down payment.

Any T/A owners out there?

Just my 2 cents worth....I see ram airs everywhere I go. Granted, it is a good looking car, just not that exclusive. The GN's and T-Types are MUCH rarer and I hardly ever see one, except in my garage. But you have to get what you like. Make yourself happy, but I personally wouldn't sell my GN for a TA.

Your crazy!!!

ME: "Did it hurt?"

You: "Did what hurt?"

ME: "Oh did it hurt when you fell and bumped your head?"

Your crazy in the head if your about to sell your Turbo T for a lousy ram air granted they are nice and kind of fast, but nothing beats these cars go down a block guarnteed you will get more heads that turn and go wow what is that compared that run of the mill TA. do not do it, besides that 9k that you could get for the car now will double in within 10 years when the TA will drop dramitcally within 10 years.

Ya it sounds dumb but I don't have love i use to have for these cars. It probably wont happen because i wont get the 9k i'm asking for it and i wouldn't take any less for it. At 9k i'm already losing $$$ on the car.

What are you looking to gain out of a Ram Air T/A? Hell, if you're gonna sell your car for a T/A get a 1989 20th Anniversary Turbo T/A! You'll still have the turbo rush of a Buick V-6 and the Firebird chassis performance. Best of both worlds!!

Everytime I hear Ram Air Pontiac can only think of the 1970 model, white or blue Trans Am, Ram Air III or IV, old but sweet cars. I'd do it for one of those! the newer Chevy powered ones, well, that is really your choice, nothing wrong with that either, really is up to what you want. Sad they don't make em anymore:(

If it helps, i had a 87 GN running low12's/high11's, great car but tons of headaches
I had a 98 ram air with a 100 shot that went low 12's with more MPH than the GN, but something about the GN i missed and still do. I drive a 5.0 now and would love to get back into a gn, but its tough if you done have the cash an di will not finance a car 15 years old. I take it the gns paid off, so keep the gn and just wait until you can buy a ram air and keep the gn, the f body value sucks now, you can get a 98 ram air for about 11-13k around here these days. Either way goodluck.

My Gawd, you don't really mean a new one, do you?
Any TR even with a few miles and battle scars on it has more class than a new TA ram whatever. Even if they are somewhat fast, they are uglier than sin.
If you are going to be a prostitute, at least be one with some class and get a '89 TTA. I enjoy my new TR as much as I do my vette, if that says anything.
If I wanted something new, I would buy a new low mileage TR.

I sold my TTA to buy my 99 TA... Granted it was out of necessity (my daily driver got kileld and my patience was running thin with the TTA), if youre doing it for "fun" you'll be losing out..

Both my GN and my TTA were MUCH more fun to drive, and got a LOT more looks. That said, the 99 is a lot of fun and gets looks too, and the whole reliability thing too. Depends what youre really looking for...

DO what makes you happy.. Kinda of a stupid place to post a question like this.

I say if you are looking to change then you must have the itch at least you are not going rice on us.

The ram air bird is a pretty looking car & a big difference from the shoe box style. I say Go4it

I'll jump in here :)

I had a WS6, and I have a GN. So I think I'm in a good position to make the comparison.

I miss the hell out of my WS6. It was an entirely different animal than the GN. No lag, no delay, simply hit the pedal and GO. Mind you, mine was turned into a "street" drag car that was barely "street" at all (TH-400 w/ brake, 4,000 stall, full HAL adj. suspension, 12 bolt, 250 wet shot, etc etc...) But even stock that thing was a beast. Lot of power for a stock car that gets 26 mpg on the highway.

Go drive one. Either it's you, or it's not. :)

It all depends on what kind of car you want. Obviously from the responses some people care if their car is rare, or if they will get more attention, have to be differtent etc. The TA is faster than a stock GN, handles much better, gets better gas milage, less stuff breaks, has a better sound system, has leather lumbar seats, and I could go on. The GN is easier to make fast, can seat 4 more comfy, has lower insurance and taxes, etc. Before I had my Vette I had an 02 WS6 and it was no comparison in the 2. If I had to drive a GN daily, I'd hit telephone polls on a weekly basis and buy stock in AAA. My GN was the perfect race car and weekend fun car. The only time I enjoy driving it is when i'm racing it.

:p

GN is a much better daily driver, easier to modify and work on, put stuff in and most importantly get in and out of several times daily.

Better ride as well.

Not to mention visibility, cool factor etc...

Much more easy to personalize as well like many people do who drive their cars everyday.

I'd have to double my medical insurance coverage if I drove a pancake car everyday. ;)

My back hurts just thinking about it.

I got rid of my 98 TA with 72000 on it for my current GN with 162000 and let me tell you the TA being 4 years old and havinf half the miles was MUCH MORE of a rattle trap than my GN. I think this just backs up the fact that the TRs are of much better build quality than the newer chevy small block cars like the TAs and Z28s. They just feel more solid overall than the newer f bodies, and maintenece is generally cheaper and more easily done by the owner

Well it kinda sucks having a car that i really don't drive that much. I store it in the winter time and the times i do drive it, i always wounder what i'm going to have to fix next. I think i'm just sick of working on cars and want something fast, american, and RWD.

This is why i want a T/A
6 speed
26 miles to a gallon
working A/C
time spent having to work on it = 0

I'm not trying to piss anyone off either, i don't hate turbobuicks, just thinking thats all.

Stop and think about what people are saying. Take away the power and you are driving an 87 olds cutlass. Built better?, I don't think so, better ride?, I don't think so.

Oh well at least now you can go out to Fudds and get a race..... Should be interesting when you're done with the GN:cool:

Only good race I have is this one:

Me vs. D1SC procharged 01 Cobra on 16 lbs of boost

And yes, Fudds will be fun again in the near future ;)

Yeah that video is a pretty good example of how hard your car launched on the street.... Ya gotta love it when your 3-4 cars ahead while the other guy is spinning:D
