I did it because I didnt feel like having a bung welded into the IC pipe. Also I feel that this is the MOST accurate way for the ECM to see what the actual Air temp is entering the cylinders.

But the stock ECM doesn't do anything with that info. It's only required up there in the up pipe or intake plenum if you're running speed density (mafless) which of course you are, but the OP isn't.
