OK I know it is not buick related so I didn't want to post in buick tech.
I have been hammering out my NEW (USED)
89 S-10 truck issues.

Today I went to do errands around town & about 5 mins into driving the service light comes on.. At one location it would not start. I had to keep pedal to floor & she fired up. She stumbled for about 2 miles.
The motor is a 2.5 fuel injected (looks like carb)

I talked with guy at auto zone & he suggested dry gas & FI cleaner, He said make sure gas cap is on good.

Did all that including new vacuum lines cause the old ones were real dry
I talked with a Turbo buddy who is a MASTER MECHANIC & seilnt member here..

He said try OXYGEN SENSOR. So off to the parts store to buy it.

The truck seems to be running fine but the light still comes on 5 mins into driving.

Do you think maybe EGR?
I think today's problem of stumbling may have been BAD GAS because this truck sat for a long time. I bought it with 1/2 tank filled. I am not sure how old that was.
I put another new 1/2 tank gas in possibly mixing up demons?

Does anyone remember the sequence to pull the codes
from jumping the ADL?? I have heard about this but don't know which to jump & how to do it..
ANY HELP?

gnttype.org

Same procedure as a TR

Don't buy anything untill you get the codes.

Most parts stores will pull the codes for you at the store.

Try a half+ gallon of Xylene in the gas to clean your injector/s and help with the old gas.

If it is bad gas you will probably get O2 sensor codes. Run it out/ drain it and see if your still getting codes.

You are so right TTA. Take the time to pull the codes and it will give you areas to diagnos. If you go blindly chasing this problem, you will spend more in time and money than just by trying trial and error method. Well worth doing it the right way first off. Mark :D :D

Yes I will try running the gas out..

I did go to gntype org & went outside to try the codes..

I HAVE A STUPID question. The service light blinks out the codes by flashing X amount of times?

So it doesn't flash a numeric figure??

It is kind of like Morse code

The first number will be long flashes.

The second number will be short flashes

A code 13 would be:
Long Flash
Short Flash
Short Flash
Short Flash

A code 31 would be:
Long Flash
Long Flash
Long Flash
Short Flash

Get it?

It also will pause for a few seconds and flash the same code over again. It does it 3 times total so you have the chance to figure it out.

Also before it begins it flashes a code 12 and when it is done it also flashes a code 12.

It sounds confusing but once you are watching the light you will see what I mean about the long and short flashes.

Your Master Mechanic buddy should have asked you first thing if your SES light was on. If so then he should have directed you to pull the codes. An O2 sensor will usually show itself through the codes. First question should always be SES light on...it can change everything.

Thanks Guys GOT it..;)

I was actually waiting for a numeric number to appear.
WHAT A DORK I AM!.

Now that I know it is morse code I will go read it again.
