Hello to all. This weekend I was out for a drive when all of a sudden my car cut off and would not start the ses light was flashing really fast not a code but a rapid constant flash after about 15 min. or so the car started and ran with no problem this is the third time this has happen in 9 months. Thanks

It indicates a PROM error (and the car is going into limp home mode). Open the PROM cover on the ECM (with the key off) and gently lift up on the bigger of the two socketed computer chips.

Its a computer issue. It happened to me after installing direct scan the first time. I re cleaned all the contacts and no more problems

I would start be resetting the chip or trying a different chip. I had that happen to me and it was the chip that was bad.

ok I'll check the computer to see if I can find anything. I had changed the computer and chip back in the winter. I had this problem before the change.

ses

what about when you don't get a ses light at all and the car will not fire up? Only turn over.

you need to check the no start issue on web sites like this and gnttype.org sorry I don't know how to send a site...anyway take look.

Eprom

Had that issue with a Emissions chip from J.Lubrant started flashing immediately. Put the regular chip in and she ran fine. Sent it back and it was fixed . Might check and see if one of the prongs on the eprom or eprom carrier is dirty , bent not allowing chip to have good solid contact it could cause an intermitant problem..

I agree, its a problem with the PROM or the PROM socket, could be a problem with a cracked solder at the the ECM board where the PROM socket is affixed, I would remove the ECM, remove and inspect both the PROM and socket, as mentioned for dirty or bent connections, then remove the board from the ECM case and inspect the rows of solders where the socket attaches to the board looking for cracks. the rapid flashing is definately an indiaction of a PROM issue, if you remove the prom and key it up you will duplicate the rapid flash. HTH:D

I didn't see anything out of the norm I checked and cleaned everything on the emc...now I'm waiting to see if it happens again.

in my 96 z i had a rapid fire cel or ses light a few times. turned out with the scanner i have it was the number 7 wire touching and burning on the header. i think this would apply to obd1 also. dont quote me just a helping thought

Also check your orange ecm wire by the batt. to see if the wires are broken or getting ready to break

On OBDII cars (96 and newer) a rapid flashing ses light is a catalyst damaging misfire (servere midsfire).

no orange wire=no ecm power and no ses light at all, nor fuel pump/spark either since the ecm can't tell it to turn on.
