i have a 2004r grandnational trans,i have a ptc 10 inch converter lockup, sfi flexplate, i beleive is a cat, when bolting the engine to the trans the flexplate and converter has no clearance where it should be a 1/8 inch or so i have zero, cant even rotate the converter, yes the converter is all the way back in the pump and the trans was built by vince here in ohio who looked at the trans and said everything was ok with it,COULD IT BE THE FLEXPLATE if so what brand would you guys recomend???

i know the cat plates need to be clearanced at the crank for the radius on forged cranks but never heard of an issue with them being too far back , i have one here i could check vs a stocker but i dont think the plate is the issue
my guess is you dont have the converter fully seated , i have heard some had troubles with the splines on the ptc being tight making seating the converter a major hassle , could also be you have twisted splines on your input shaft
the fact that the converter wont spin right now and your bolted up isnt good for the trans pump
with the trans engaged square to the block the converter should be able to move atleast 1/8" back from the flexplate

oh btw , never use the bolts to pull the trans to the block if it wont seat square without bolting it stop and find out why

Make sure the flexplate is mounted flush to the crank or swap to a stock flexplate to see if anything solves the issue. Like was mentioned, also check the input shaft for any burs that may keep the converter from sliding all the way onto the input shaft.

I assume the trans and flexplate is all that was changed or is it a new motor? I have had a couple of the aftermarket cranks move the flexplate enough to make clearance issues with the converter.

If you don't find any issue you can send the converter back and we can machine the pads down some. All converters are built to a height spec so it's rare if that's the case but if you don't find any issues we'll shorten the converter a little.

yes guys i have switched back to the original flexplate and it works fine its almost like the cat flexplate is too thick!!! any suggestions thanks a bunch ..

You have 2 choices. Get the flexplate issue fixed or send the converter back to have it machined for the flexplate. Personally, if I knew the stock flexplate works I would not make the converter shorter to fit the flexplate. They should supply you a flexplate that fits IMO.
