I have an old 5 gal. JAZ fuel jug I can store it in. How long is it good for considering I'm only filling that little coolant jug and probably only using it once a week or so

Not sure of the exact shelf life but you will not come anywhere close to it. I keep mine in a 5 gallon utility jug as well. I was advised that it might have a slight yellow tint to it but that is okay.

actually methanol should be kept in a metal can, and very tightly sealed.

it is very hydrophillic by nature, meaning it will absorb moisture right from the air.

i don't know if you were talking about a plastic jug, but i would only use one for temporary storage and easy fillups, etc.

whether or not the additional water in the methanol will cause an issue in your particular application is another subject entirely. i have seen some uncapped meth get cloudy after a while.

i kept about 4 gallons of meth in a 5 gallon plastic gas jug that you would get at an auto parts store. after about 6 months of sitting there the meth seemed to have lost its effect. i filled up my meth tank with this old meth and was getting some noticeable knock. bought some new meth and the knock was gone. . . .

EXACTLY! :)

it probably became much less concentrated. not only do you have the effect of the moisture content in the air entering the methanol, but the methanol molecules evaporating away.

even a container you think is airtight has some diffusion taking place.

I don't think it gets that diluted. It's 100% methanol. If you can see it, it is methanol. It evaporates 100%. Sure it can soak up a little water, like a super tiny amount. So what? May even be good. Alky is sold in plastic bottles everywhere. Look at the drug stores, medical supply, etc. (I own a Dental Lab and have tonz of chemicals if that helps.)

This may be of of some value. See bold letters in relation to the original post.

ACETONE has all the basic requirements as a fuel being midway between petrol and methanol with an anti-knock rating approaching methanol. As an additive to methanol it reduces pre-ignition sensitivity and promotes easier starting under low temperature conditions (up to 10% for these purposes).
In small percentages (about 3%) it also reduces methanol's hygroscopic properties.
