Are there some guys here who are using an Auto Meter "Quick Lite" shift light (pt# 5329 or 5331)? I'm interested in getting one for my GN and would've liked some opinions. I would also need an "RPM Activated Module" (pt#5310) in which you put the rpm chip to turn the light on at the desired rpm, that I could mount inside the console or glove box..I tend to prefer the ones which use some rpm "pills" or chips to the ones which have a knob that you turn...What do you guys think?
Any feedback would be appreciated...

Thanks,

Claude.

They are nice to have. Glove box is a good place too. I use the larger led type. Had TH400 before and since I have a digital dash I needed a tach.

Hey Claude look at the autometer or stewart warner shift light and digital tach that are the size of a gauge and fit in the a pillar or center console.I did a search and some of the guys PM;d on these.Good luck.Winter is comeing is yours in storage yet? Later

Thanks Kevin for the reply...right now, there are two gauges on the pillar, so no more room there... That's why I was looking at the small diameter ones for which I could fabricate a bracket (like the one I made for my boost controller) that would be sandwiched behind the large square speedo pod and also hide the wiring inside of it. Then, I would run the wiring from the shift lite to the RPM Activated Module inside either the glove box or the console (not decided about which one)...
As for winter coming, I haven't stored the car for good yet, but it should be done in the next coming weeks.

Thanks!

Claude.

-->P.S: Anyone else have opinions about the shift light?...

I have both types Claude. I have the older pill shift light in my 62 Chevy and a brand new Carbon fiber 5 inch monster tach in my GN. I has the light wired direct. Just turn the knob on the tach to set. I just wish the tach had recall on it.

Thanks "coach" for your reply...I, like you, have some Auto Meter carbon fiber gauges, (oil press, water temp, boost and fuel press.) but no tach. While making a run, I like to keep my eyes on the track and don't have time to look down at a tach (or any other gauge). I have a FAST system that records every parameter so I can look at it after the run.
I want a shift light so I'll still be able to look where I'm going and see the flash of the shift light, letting me know when it's time to shift. I chose one with pills rather than a knob, the same one which I posted in the first post. I intend to mount the shift light on top of the dash above the speedometer housing with the Rpm Activated Module (in which you plug the chips) in the glove box...Should make a neat installation...
I just ordered it from Summit's today...

I totally understand. If you look at my gauge set-up, all the gauges are tilted. When I am at WOT, all the needles should be pointing straight up. One quick glance and look at the knock and I am good to go. I have a manual trans brake, so I only have to shift once. The yellow light gives is pretty bright at night so keep the cover in the car. I keep mine on the backside of the light in the day and put it on at night. I made a nice housing to mount the gauges in on top of the dash. I need to post a pic of it.

"coach", yeah, I had noticed the tilted gauges...It's an old trick some guys did back when I raced in the NHRA Super Stock classes...all the needles have to point straight up, letting you know if everything's ok at just a quick glance...
Not sure I understand what you mean by having to "shift only once" though... I have an electric trans brake coming off the line (in 1st gear) but I still got to shift twice, from 1st to 2nd and another time from 2nd to 3rd...I never use "OD". Like I said in my previous post, things happen so fast that I don't have time to look at the gauges, so this is why I want to have a shift light.

Claude.

I have a manual trans brake that uses the 1st gear position for the brake. I pull the shifter all the way back to set it, then build my boost and slam it into 2nd ( which is actually 1st.) It shifts itself into 2nd and then I shift it into 3rd. Vince Janis installed it and I love it.

As for the gauge thing, my dad started me on that. He is old time drag racer. I actually lost a Best Interior Award in my 62 pro street car at the Hot Rod Supernationals years ago because of it. The judge told me after the awards that I would have won if my gauges were "fixed". I took him over and showed him why they were like that. He never knew such a thing. He said he was sorry and would tell other judges to watch for this and not dock points.

Don't you have an xfi?

If so use the aux output to turn on the shift light

Claude,

Don't you have a FAST on the car? You can trigger the shift light with the FAST.

Mmmm...Yes I do have a FAST XFI on my car...I just didn't know I could do that!...Thanks guys! I just wish I knew earlier as I wouldn't have ordered the RPM activated module and pill kit!...

Claude.

P.S: Does someone know how to do that?...Is this done using my laptop?...
