Shifter doesn't go into 1st

I like to manually shift my car but for some reason it physically won't shift into 1st. The tranny was professionally done by the previous owner (orange stripe, 10 vane pump, hardened input shaft, the works) and kicks ass...perhaps something is not adjusted right in the linkage?

It is probably the adjustment. Had same prob before.

Thanks for the tip...will that work the same for console mounted shifters?

All that hardware in the diagram is the same regardless of shifter location. Matter of fact, due to the anti-theft, locking column design, all of our cars are 'column-shifted'. They just don't have the stalk poking out.

Watch your column collar when you move your floor shifter.
