Does anyone make a race shifter that will work w/the console? Something that would mount in the stock location like the old Hurst Dual Gate?

When racing a turbo Buick, is it common practice to allow the trans to shift into overdrive, or does one only use the first three gears? And do most people use the stock shift points, or is it beneficial to shift at higher RPM?

Since torque and horsepower curves always cross at 5252, you need to know if your car produces torque above 5252. If so, shift at max torque, otherwise shifting at 5200 is usually ideal.

Another rule of thumb is to shift 10% beyond peak horsepower. So where do turbo Buicks "like" to make peak horsepower and peak torque? I know on NA motors it is primarily determined by stroke, and secondarily by induction system, but turbo motors don't need as much rpm, right?

I have installed the B&M Quicksilver shifter in a couple of GN's and it works quite well. You have to do a small bit of modifying but it's not too difficult. It looks good too.

Thanks. I'll take a look at those as well...
