ok I installed this 2004r tranny in my 66 skylark , the trany was shifting fine for about 50 miles and today it is acting up, 1-2 shifts are fine but when it shifts from 2-3 it happens whay too soon and 4th comes in right after and lugs the engine I checked my cable and its correct, one funny thing once in a while it seams to shift correctly when I put the car in third gear it will do the same thing any ideas? I even turned off my lock up-controller and same thing???:

What kind of shape was the trans, cooler, & torque converter in when you installed them? Since it doesn't do this all the time it sounds like the TV valve is sticking. If it was shifting too soon *all* the time I'd say to look at the Governor.

Any kind of dirt in the trans can cause the TV valve to stick. It's not the plunger, but the valve deep inside the valve body that controls pressure & shift points.

Also, I hope you have the right TV Cable bracket setup since the 200-4R was not an option that year.

Since you need a TV Cable conversion kit for that year double check it ASAP. Too little TV will fry this trans quickly.

they were both new , the odd thing , I took the car for a long ride the trany shiffted great about 15 miles but the shifting problem started again on my way home what gives the 3 and 4 shift get dicked up?
