shimming 700r4 tcc solenoid for 2004r. need help.

I have a new solenoid for a 700 and the instructions say to shim .100 washers that it says are included. It came with a pair of studs and a pair of nuts. Do I use these? I assume the shims are missing?

The studs are the shims. Yes...use the studs.

Mine came with 2 sets of nuts. BTW those studs are not strong don't lean on them

why not use a factory on for the 200r4

The kit is meant to work for both 200 and 700s, but the solenoid stands off slightly more on one than another, hence the shims. Looks like the kit changed: the instructions look the same, but the hw is different. We got this to put a 200r4 with a shot solenoid on a Pontiac 400 and the kit came with 2 nylon washers as shown in the instructions. No studs or nuts came with the kit - can't recall if it came with bolts, we just re-used what was on the trans.

I just bought a brand new old stock GM one from Ebay for 15 bucks. The guy has 10 of them. I dont like cutting wires if i don't have to.

You are still going to have to splice the solenoid. The nos ones on e-bay have the wrong configuration for our transmissions. They are wired for a thermal switch and no 3rd gear switch.

It comes with the 4th gear switch wire and supposed to be new old stock.

If you look at the wiring, it is setup for a 4th gear switch and a thermal switch like used on a SS Monte Carlo code CZF. There is no provision for a 3rd gear switch. To make it work you have to connect the red wire coming from the solenoid directly to the four pin side connector or join the black and red wires on the thermal switch connector together. You still won't have a connection for the 3rd gear switch.

If I remember correctly the 700r4 was a more heavy duty unit and that's why we used them when the original failed. Can someone shine some light on this , I might be wrong.

Cut and splice them. Solder them together and use heat shrink to insulate them.

They are the same. The only difference is the one for a 700-R4 has a longer snout. That's why you need the spacer when installed in a 200-4R.

I dont have a way to solder then, I will use posi locks if I knew what size ones i need. I dont have the solenoid yet so i cant see the wires. Anyone know what size they are?
