Good lookin guard snake

That things a beaut looks cool sittin up there. My son he was 6 or 7 and wanted a snake always bothered me for one. So one time I was out mountain biking and a snake was crossing the trail so I sped up grabbed the tail I thought maybe a 3footer well the darn thing was longer then I thought and turn arounds and bites my hand well I get him off and grab him behind the the head safely. I bike ride one handed back up to truck all the time it's wrigglin/wrapping itself all around my arm. I Find a box in the trash there at the trail-head and stuff him into it. Take it home and I put it in a bird cage I had i the garage. This Bullsnake would wind up and suck in air and hiss then would lunge at you and hit the cage with his mouth. They mimic a rattler in a way they coil up and strike and make that hissin noise. My son gets home from the store with his mom and I tell him son I caught you a little bullsnake up in the foothills come on and check him out. He's like cool dad thanks, Well we get no closer then a couple feet and the snake is hissin bowing up and striken the cage. My son jumped backwards I was laughin and he says dad I don't think I want a snake as a pet anymore. So I said lets go with me and we will set him free back in his stomping grounds. This Bullsnake was almost 6foot in length beautiful coloring when I held him up next to myself. We let him go close to where I caught him. Actually have killed 2 Diamond back Rattlers up in the same area I caught this Bullsnake at. One had 9 rattles and the other younger had 6. Ended up gettin the boy some Bearded Dragons lizards no more snakes.

Dude, that's a sweet ladder. Did you know there was a big a$$ snake up there?

Actually..

Dude, that's a sweet ladder. Did you know there was a big a$$ snake up there?

I had seen him in the woods behind the shop. Never thot he'd come into a confined place like the shop. He was on about the 5th step of the 8' ladder. I was standing next to the door, for better cell reception. I looked at him, he looked at me, and he proceeded to roost where you see him in the photo.
I checked about an hr ago... Still there!:D
He'll likely be rather lethargic, until he digests the mouse, [bulge next to his head].
I left the door cracked a bit, so he can leave when he's ready.
I'm not afraid of snakes, but have an utmost respect for them.

Sweet! I love snakes. I use to have them as pets when I lived in FL. Friend had a Boa that use to live in his bathroom:eek:. He had to put it in there after placing (8) encyclopedias on top of its cage to contain it. That didn't work so he moved it to the bathroom. He is actually a professional snake handler now.

It was amazing how strong the thing was. Both hands could not fit around it and it weighed about as much as I did. Eventually it just got too big for the home and donated it to a wildlife reserve in south FL near the everglades.

Try handling it. Rat snakes are quite gentle.

With all the weather you been gettin maybe that snake knew it was time to come in before it started to rain and the wind blow. Still gotta say he's one good lookin specimen.
