Have seen guys that have been throught a LOT of pratice miss 3 shots at point blank range. Always different in the "real thing", than in training. As for shooting to wound or shooting to kill...I learned a long time ago, I shoot to stop the threat.

I agree 100%, but training & practice is still very important...

Two words, SELF DEFENSE, he was inside your property and came at you with bad intentions with a metal object that put your life in DANGER, you shot in self defense, as a tax paying citizen your allow to defend your life if you believe your life to be in danger, I would have shot him in the face so that if he survives every day he looks in the mirror he will remember that moment in time when he made a stupid mistake that could have cost him his life.., this is a no brainer you will be just fine don't worry about..hope the MOFO learns his lesson if he survives..

Right, training is the closest, and needs to be done....

I should have gone to the range with my sister in law, since she went this saturday, but ive been too busy with work and projects.
Shes probably a better shot than me, even if she just got her permit and gun. She had to get some sort of protection because shes a single mother of three children, and she had a peeping tom at her window one morning while she was getting ready for work.
Ill get more practice one day when i have the time. I used to have a 12 gauge noble shotgun, but let my dad have it since he lives alone in south chicago.

My old man showed up at the house and brought the beast back and said that im better off with her here because i have children. BIGGRIN!
Its like she wasnt meant to leave, now i just have to get some more shells since he used all the ones i gave him.

12 guage with tactical buckshot is ideal for home defense..point and shoot. Low amount of over penetration, WIDE pattern. Rifles and pistols are going to be tougher without practice and close quarters combat training. Standing at a range and shooting something at 25yrds or closer is great for getting to know the weapon and such, but nothing like the real thing. Fine a range that has a CQC class and take it, yes it is hard, but you'll see the difference when you enter a room and a paper target is moving (or you are moving) and you are trying to shoot it.

glad to hear you and your family is ok , just remember to have a plan , I have a plan for my family in case I have to go outside and confront someone, you should too. PLEASE, remember I know you were armed but remember the wolves ( bad guys ) are sometimes armed also, I call them wolves because they always travel in packs, when you see one , just remember the other one could be around, your life isn't worth whatever is outside your house. I know of a attorney that ran outside his property with his gun in his hand running out the front door to stop the guy from stealing his Mercedes , what he didn't see was the other guy behind him...he didn't make it, that case has yet to be solved. not trying to scare you, just showing you how valuable training with your weapon and staying level headed can be, my advise to you, teach your wife how to use the shotgun, and when possible, I would advise another firearm get something your wife feels comfortable with and yes practice, practice , PRACTICE, the life you save may be your own or a loved one. sorry, I get carried away.

Id get a mossburg and load it with the variety back like my buddy does 2 shells of rock salt 2 shells buckshot and then lastly 2 hollowpoint slugs...
