Should I put NOS in my car?

Normally I wouldn't even think of doing this but my uncle has a NOS kit and no car to put it in. He said he would put it in my car no charge to me because he wans to see what it is like. Should i do it or will it hurt my engine.

sure go for it. make sure you got the chip issues sorted out first and use some race gas the first time and dont spray too soon

Man, is this really the type of car that you want to beat up? I'm not an ASE, or anything- but my vote is 'no way'. I would only put NOS on a car that has parts readily available and cheap....any TR or GN just seems to me tobe to precious a vehicle to do that to........if you haven't already, I would recommend thorough experimentation with alcohol first.

Thats what I was thinking at first, I just wanted to see if anyone else had put it on their car and how it worked for them. I have a beat up 91 camaro i could put it on to mess it around.

Put it on the Buick, just do not get greedy witht he bottle. Make sure to run only high octane leaded fuel, and retard the timing, along with colder plugs.

That is what seems to keep the engines together. I am sure that BUICKTR will chime in. He knows his stuff when it comes to the "hose" on these cars.

Put it on! Get yourself a good low timing chip and make sure you got good fuel delivery. A 50-75 shot will wake the car from the start and all the way to the end. Make sure your kit is a wet system unless you have a FAST then you could use wet or dry. I have used a wet system with my factory maf but I am upgrading to a FAST system and a dry kit will be in the future once I get my car running and tuned properly. TurboTR is the FAST tuner and I'm sure will get the bottle back on once we get the car in tune.

buicktr, what have you run with your NOS and what setup were you running?

I had a TA62 turbo, Thunder Fab IC (stock location), 50 lb inj, 307 Walbro, stock iron unported heads (upgraded valve springs), stock plenum, stock TB, stock intake. I used a 75 shot and the car ran an 11.12 at 124 mph. It would run mid 11's with no NOS at around 119-120 mph.

Do you run a moderate level of boost with that 75 shot, say around 15 or 16lbs? Or are running 22 +? Just wondering if you can allow the nitrous to do most of the "work" instead of maxing the turbo. Thanks.

I tried a 50 and 75 shot. The 50 shot usually added 2-3 lbs of boost over the initial 20 lb I had it set on without nitrous. When I decided to spray a 75 shot I had my boost level at 22 lb of boost without the nos. When I hit the 75 shot the boost would go up to 26-27 lbs of boost. Let me tell you this car pulled like crazy. I would spray it off the line at the track and it pulled very strong until the end of the race. Boost came up very FAST. It becomes an addition when you start using NOS ($$$). My car loved it and I never hurt a gasket nor my motor. When I took my heads off to install my new Champion Irons my GM head gaskets were in excellent condition. I never got brave to spray a 100 shot. It probably would of run high 10's but I think I was running out of fuel pump and injector. Be conservative on your timing. Remove 2 degrees of timing per 50 shot.

Iv'e got a street chip with 19* timing. I wonder if that would work wth a 50-75 shot?

Stick with a 50 shot with that chip. You probably would want to bump up your fuel pressure about 2-3 lbs when you spray. A street chip may be a little conservative on the fuel setting on top end.

I have a chip in the car now that has very low timing, I can turn up the boost to about 23# with no knock. Will I need a new chip?

Try out your current chip but at a 50 shot only. Set your boost about 17-18 lbs. Make sure you keep an eye on your knock and 02 readings. You do not want more than 3 degree of knock and maintain your 02 no less than 790 and no more than 810 reading.

Sorry but I would say throw that NOS kit on an NA vehicle. Granted it is a quick way to gain HP, but there are better ways for turbo cars that don't require refilling or the ridicule of having "2 power adders" on your car. Use it on either a mustang or a can of whipped cream.

I kinda agree with 1badTTA...My car came with a NOS kit on it ( well half of one, no bottle and no line running to the trunk, but all the wiring and solenoids were there) and I took it off...'m probably going to put it on my Eclipse...I hate ricers (I know, then why did I buy an Eclipse) but their's a great feeling when you kick their a**es with both of your cars (T-type, and the day driver)...Oh and their's something that makes me feel really good about beating them with an Amreican car, AND beating them on their own turf so to speak.
