I have a low mileage GN that has NEVER slept outside. It was garage kept by the original owner and he had it repainted in 1993. My rear bumper fillers are starting to fade. They are in great shape otherwise with no visible cracking or anything. I hate to spend a ton of money on new glass fillers then a good chunk of change on the P & B place for such a small job.

Can I get away with sanding down my originals and prepping and spaying them with some good spray paint? I have read a few posts with some board memebers having some good results with a high quality spray paint.I know the old saying that you get what you pay for and I never skimp on my my GN BUT times are not as good as they used to be. Trying to save some coin. Any advice or tips would be appreciated. The car has a $9,00 paint job on it. I am afraid I will spend a ton of money at the P&B shop and it wont match anyway.

My fillers were starting to fade also, I went that route of painting them over, but they still cracked over a little bit of time. I think once they start showing signs of fading the chemicals are breaking down in the material and it's only a matter of time before you see signs of a crack starting somewhere, and then it only gets worse. I just installed all new fiberglass fillers on my GN about 2 weeks ago, my fillers were cracked bad.

How was the fit and finish of the fiberglass fillers? Did they take much work to look right? Looking to buy some as my car is scheduled for paint in 3 weeks.

Thanks

Since my car needs paint also, I just installed them the way they came right out of the box. The fiberlass fillers I installed were bought from Danko reproductions and they come with a black gelcoat finish, like I said my car could use paint so Idon't think they look that bad installed right out of the box, but thats just my opinion, sure they would look better painted, but I will wait until the whole car gets painted. These fillers fit pretty well, all I had to do was oblong the holes some and keep trial fitting a few times until the fillers lined up perfect with the body lines. I just had to pull the fillers out about 1/8" and hold them while tightning the fender alignment bolts, no big deal. For your car since your painting it the fillers will require some sanding and minor cosmetic work to get them perfect, at least the ones that I bought, I know other people have said different opinions on some fillers.
