Looking for pictures of 275/50/15 and 275/60/15 tires on the STOCK 87 GN wheels.

I am trying to decide if I want 50 or 60 series tires.

I run 235/60 up front and they are 26.10 inches tall

275/50 are closest to that at 25.82 inches tall
275/60 are 27.99 inches tall

So... the 50's would lower the back of the car by .14 inches where the 60's would raise the back by .95 inches.

Being as the front tires are under more weight they are a tad 'shorter' so the 50's would most likely be equally tall and keep the car level.

Then there is the arguement that the rear springs have sagged with age (I don't think mine have) so the 60's would pick the back end up a bit.

Anyway, if I can see some picts of people with both 275/50 and 275/60 on GN rims... preferably BFG radial TA's ...... that would make my day :-)

 Those are 275/60

Hey John, what did you use to paint the center section red like that, i dont have any of my caps so i would like to do that

Bright red enamel brush-on paint, haha. Red Devil I think, probably ACE Hardware brand. I did it for the same reason since I'm not using shouldered lugs in the rear. Need some Moser decals. :p

Kenny,

What size rims are those? Are they 15x7 like the stock GN wheels?

I am concerned with rubbing with the 275's.

A friend is letting me try on his 255/60's to see what they fit like.

I'd have to dissagree with the 75s looking like crap. I have both, but unfortunally only have the 50s on the stock wheels in my pic page.

I think he meant the 60 series looks like crap but the 50's are ok.

I tend to agree that a HUGE tire in the back looks a bit 'redneck' to me but that is why I am asking for picts so I can see enough to make a decision.

Thanks to all that have responded.

Yes, they were 15x7's. I ran a spacer, I think it was a 5/16"? Never rubbed.

Only the 60's look like crap.

The 50's look great.

Some people run into rubbing issues with the 275/50 tires, from what I recall. If the axle is not centered right, could be rubbing on the inside and hence the need for spacers. Some people think spacers are not the best idea, especially for drag racing.

The 275/60 is taller, and there may be rubbing potential also. Since this tire is not as wide, but taller, the rubbing will most likey occur on the outer lip. New springs and/or air bags can help. I did this on my T but then the rear looked a little jacked up because my front springs were sagging and the body bushings were worn out/missing. With new fronts springs and body bushings its sits very nice now.

Here's a pic before the new front springs and bushings.

I have 60s on my GN with 15x8 Welds. I would have gotten 50s but I got a super deal on the 60s. It took a few days but the look has grown on me.

I have 275/60-15 Nitto drag radials on my car and I like the look of them. They don't look like to big of a tire at all. Almost every show I go to people go right to the rear tires so see the size and how they are under the rear. I get nothing but compliments from people about them. IMO the 50's are to squatty looking. The rim makes a big difference. I don't think you could get them not to rub on a stock rim unless you have new shocks and springs and maybe bags to be safe.. I have new shocks, springs, and 10lbs of air in the bags. I'm also using a 15x8.5 GN rim and a 1/4" spacer to be safe.

Just go to turbobuicks.net and look in the gallery under Phillyturbosix and you'll see a ton of pics of my tires on my car.

60s looking redneck?

Yea, I guess 60s can look kinda white trash if you have your ride in a stink-bug stance. 275/60/15s look sweet on a car that's been lowered 1" all around. It can be done. It was'nt cheap but, I did it on mine. The car had lower and stiffer springs on it when I got it. I had the stock GN rims widened 1" with a 4" back spacing. Also had to get adj upper control arms to center out the rear end. It was off set almost 3/8" (I think most are). Air bags with 8 psi left side and 12 psi right keep thing from bottoming out when I have rear seat pasengers or,hit pot holes or, both. There was a slight rubbing on the fender lip that force me to trim 1/4" off. An after market sway bar might help things out a bit too. Last thing, my tires are BFG DRs. Sorry, no pics.

Kenny, this is a tire thread. Don't get bent out of shape because I disagree with you. Stay on subject.
