When the pump is on, alcohol sprays between where the pressure switch bolts on to the pump (top).

I took it apart, and there is a dark-red oring there, which I figure is the culprit. It didn't look bad, but who knows, maybe it is swelled just enough to not seal and let the alcohol get by. Also if you remove the pressure switch you will find a "cap", which I thought could be leaking as well. Anyone taken the pressure switch off the Shurflo or taken the pump apart know what I am talking about? Where can I get spare seals, etc.?

This pump has been use for only about 6 months using Denatured alcohol and Klotz Uplon Lube.

Anyone else have this problem?

I heard Steve Monroe mention a rebuilding kit for the Shurflo so I guess Northerntool.com probably has it. I've been running mine for three years and 70K miles but haven't had any problems.

Yeah, I have read about plenty of people using the pump for years without any issues. My pump has never seen any methanol (except for what LITTLE they put in Denatured Alcohol), and I always used a cap-full of Klotz Uplon Lube per 1/2-3/4 gal of denatured alcohol.

I don't know why its leaking. I removed the pressure switch to make sure all the seals were "seated" properly, and reinstalled and it still leaks.

So I think I will try to order all new seals, etc that belong on the pressure switch.

In the scheme of things..just think..if you were running nitrous..two bottles filled would equal 60 bucks.. Go get a new pump and have yourself a spare..its just cheap enough not to mess with it.

This is the nice thing about the DIY kit.. if the pump is rebuildable..great..if not..its only 60 bucks to get your BOOST fix.

Plus it comes with a one year warranty through Northern. Sorry to hear your having pump problems..but it really isnt too big a problem :)

Ever heard the story about the guy that drives clear across town to save 2 cents per gallon on gas... :D

YOU'RE PROBLEM WAS PROBABLY CAUSED BY USING THE "KLUTZ" OIL. I'VE BEEN FORGETTING TO USE IT FOR THREE YEARS NOW.

STOP TELLING EVERYBODY MY SECRETS!

I think I will try the Check Valve Rebuild kit. It looks like just what the doctor ordered!

Stevemon, where did you buy your rebuild kit?

Thanks.

Klotz with Shurflo?

The Klotz is needed in the SMC kit for lubricating the steel roller vane pump. I see no reason to use it in a Shurflo pump!!!! It does give the engine a touch of upper cylinder lubrication, but it may be detrimental to the rubber & plastic in a Shurflo!!!!
