Gentlemen
I just got a multi-year project started and driving last night, the engine I purchased was from a stock GN with 40K miles.
Cranked and run fine after years of being off working and eliminating all the other issues, trans rebuild, paint, interior etc... I finally drove the car last night for the first time since purchase in 2007! Car does not have a hot wire kit but I have one to install this morning. While driving last night everything seems fine except if you get into it hard it feels just like you shut the key off and the "Service Engine Soon" light would flash, it goes off and the car takes off again to repeat the same action again.
Have no experience with these cars but have been a mechanic all my life. Looking for some input as what is the direction I need to go. The guy I bought the car from said it had a "Conley Performance" chip in it from the 80's, I will check that this morning also.
I do have a Scanmaster, a DATA Logger and a Innovative Motorsports XD-16 Standalone gauge kit w/LC-1 Cable.

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
JP

Check the battery positive cable where it is close to the downpipe. The engine rocking over under power can have it shorting to the downpipe.

Same as above except mine was touching the driver side exhaust manifold. Under heavy throttle it would touch. It quickly burnt thru and would short out. Just like turning off the engine for a second.

Same as the guys above...mine was rubbing agianst the passenger side manifold when throttled. I found mine by seeing it spark at night...scared the crap out of me too.

That also happened to me once before. Burnt thru the cable, car started sputtering then shut off. Also, fried my battery, it started smoking really bad. Scared the crap out of me.

If the above mentioned checks out, look at the balancer, the bolt may be loose or the balancer cracked and walking.
