Sticky Thread on Alky Tuning

Well, I'm maybe a week or two from getting the GN back out on the road. One of the Winter projects was the addition of a dual nozzle SMC alky kit. I've been reading through this forum trying to glean good information on tuning with alky. It seems to be a patchwork of threads where the same question (how to tune) is asked over and over. But none of the threads are all inclusive...each one seems to add it's own pearls of wisdom.

I was wondering if the members that really understand the system could use this thread or perhaps start a new one as a sticky and discuss the basics of tuning with alky for a newcomer like myself. I've always wondered why there wasn't a sticky on this subject on this board.

If I've missed a really good thread explaining it please just post a link to the thread. Perhaps it could be made into a sticky by the moderators? Thanks as always for the help.

I propose that we find the most frequently asked questions in the alky section, and put up a sticky that has links to the best explainations to them. We can add to the list as time goes on. This way, we don't have a rediculous amount of posts and such in the sticky.

Just an idea.

Back when I was building my system, I talked to Joe Avellar alot and basically pattern my system after his. I left out a few things and I only have one nozzle but, he was a wealth of info. I do understand what you are saying about the whole tuning it though.

My understanding is...

Turn on point too low equal bogging.
Turn on too high equals knock before it kicks in.
Spray too much equals bogging.
Spray too little equals knock as boost gets higher.

Within those four ranges, everything is covered to some extent. When I first put mine on, I used the M15 nozzle and it kept bogging. I wired in the Power injection light to see when it was coming on and every time, it bogged. I raised the turn on point and it still bogged. Changed to a M10 nozzle and it was fine. I can't adjust my pump speed. All I can do is change nozzles. Basically it is like fuel pressure. Start with the M10 and midway pump pressure. If you bog, when it comes on, turn up the activation point first to where you normally get knock with out it. Then turn the pump speed up. If you max out both, you need a bigger nozzle and then start over in the mid range for pump speed and about 10-12 psi activation. Using that method, I have gotten 30psi when my wastegate decided to get stuck. I planned on setting it up for a dual stage nozzle but never needed to hook up the second nozzle. It is there waiting...

Lol.....sicky thread. :( Anyways, perhaps a sticky for the D.I.Y. kit and one for tuning would be in order. I sure see a lot of the same questions repated throughout this forum for each.
