Sitting around for a long time.

The car has been sitting for a long time with no real miles since 1994. Car is running a stock 200r4 with a shift kit. The car is not banging into gear as before. Could the problem be just a cable adjustment or a need to get the trans shifting to get the fluids moving and the gears banging. A trans rebuilder suggested shifting the car manually for a while to see what happens. Under normal conditions car will shift normally. Any thoughts?

You can get more detailed answers from more experienced trans people on this board, but I would change the fluid and filter if it has not be used much in 8 years. You can adjust the TV cable to the GM factory setting and adjust from there.
