A friend of mine built this 63 Tempest with a 431 BBC disguised as a 326 Pontiac. It has homemade rear mounted turbos, TH400 with a brake and a Fast XFI. His objective was to a sleeper for hitting the local flashlight drags which are held at an airport. The car has progressed very well and holds it's own.

Recently he decided to take the car to the Maxton Mile in South Carolina. When they pulled in to Maxton the locals told them that they brought a knife to a gun fight and pretty much they didn't stand a chance! Well that all changed after they saw the first shakedown pass at over 175 mph. Well they have worked on the aerodynamics the best they could and changed the rear gears. The car has set a bunch of new records and is currently the fastest door car at Maxton. Here is some vids and pics of the car.

Enjoy

Man that thing pulls hard on the top end!

Wonder what they did with the factory independent rear that came in that car?

The car was originally equipped with a transaxle. That was swapped for an Oldsmobile axle. They run a 3.50 gear for drag racing and a 2.63 gear for the Maxton top speed passes.

What was done to the frame for strength? I don't see a roll bar-is it hidden?

That is easily one of the baddest sleepers I have seen!

Cool sleeper.
Is that a Powermaster in that thing? Unbelievable.

The frame was connected when the car was built. Afterwards there was a rollbar added for the top speed passes.

A little update on the sleeper Pontiac. They went to Rockingham and were hoping for 8.90's. However they are quiet happy with the car. 4000# as it sits.
