My car has a slight lifter tick after a good run. Is this a major problem?

Thanks,
DH

Thats what i thought also ( exhaust leak ) but i checked all around and nothing. Also it has that metallic sound. I thought if it was exhaust it would get better when the car warms but in the morning its quiet and worsens as it warms.

What type of oil?And hows your oil pressure after car warms up vs what it is when cold.May only be a bad lifter, but you sound as if this isnt a typical lifter tap?

10w40 mobil synthetic
pressure cold: high 40's, hot: high 20"s

Don't get me wrong, it's not bad just annoying.

If you can live with it and cars performance doesnt suffer, than Id let it go till next time top end comes apart.

Mine is experiencing the same noise. I have bought a set of Comp lifters and a new intake gasket. I will be putting them in soon. I am curious to see how they are wearing. I am hoping that my stock cam is not wiping a lobe and that I will just be able to swap the lifters. I'm using Mobil1 10W-40 with Lucas Stabil in the oil.

I would pull the valve covers and just make sure it's not a broken/cracked rocker shaft or broken rocker...BTDT...

check your cam sensor

Check the cam sensor, put your fingers on the top when it is running, my limited was doing the same thing which sounded like a lifter. You can actually feel the ticking if this is your problem, good luck.

What do you mean good luck?

It's not a good idea to install new lifters with an old cam. The lifters and the cam are like a set once they are broken in.

Agreed. Dont do this.

maybe that sounded sarcastic which was not my intention, "good luck" as in I hope you get to the bottom of your problem without too much grief. Hopefully you do check the cam sensor before you tear into it, mine sounded just like a lifter problem hopefully this is your problem. I went through the exact same symptom and got lucky with a cam sensor change. Thanks Henri...

No I thought you meant, good luck you got major problems. Thanks for the info. I'll check the cam sensor first.

To chk for leaks

Get a can of Sea Foam remove one of your vacume lines have it suck in the foam and look for smoke. This will smoke up your yard be aware but any leaks will come out of the headers ect..
