Ok only under med boost does it slip in 2nd gear.If i let up on the gas it will lock in all the way.My main question is if i were to change the filter and tran fluid would it help solve the problem? The trans is a 400 bop with stright turbo cut gears and is not all that old and does not even have that much time on the trans. All my problems started when i changed my trans fluid from dextron 3 to type f fluid and also found the filter in the bottom of the pan the bolt had came through the fiter so i put a new on and tightened it up tight (maybe this could be some of my problem?)Its to tight?Well i was hoping it would be worth the money to try this first befor pulling the trans if anyone thinks this could help fix the problemPlease let me know.
Thanks Tony

The filter is not supposed to be 'tight' on that bolt. It's supposed to float on that bolt so that it's sucking fluid from the bottom of the pan. Did you fasten it up snug with the valve body? If so, you may be sucking air.

2nd slipping

Yae it tight.Could this help the problem if i install a new one or is the trans screweded up anyways?

Well, it really depends on how hard you've pushed it since you noticed the problem. The TH400 is a pretty forgiving transmission but if you've been rough on it while it's been sucking air, you may have scorched the clutches. Just drop the pan, fix the filter, refill and give it a try.

Thanks

Thank for the advice i will try that first.I hope this is the fix it sure will be alot cheaper then the other way. Thanks again for your time.

Its fixed

Thank you for your advice it worked and the trans shifts great. It was sucking air when i launched and the wheels come off the ground. The only problem is i only had a filter with the paper filter inside.Should i remove it and get a screen one instead?of paper or will it be ok?Once again thanks alot you saved me about $500.00 Guess IOU one.
