I have a 3000 stall converter from Transmission Specialties in PA. It is a 10" Low Stall XHD with balooning plates.
I have had this converter in three different transmissions, and the converter was just put in after a freshen up two days ago. The problem is that if I am rolling down the highway in 2nd gear (powerglide) and mat the gas pedal, the RPM's shoot up to 4950 RPM's and stay there until the engine catches up.
I have a Powerlogger file of this happening at the track as well, I was at 4900 RPM from 2mph to 93mph. The file is when I was running a th350, and that ended up giving up the ghost. (I cannot seem to post the file, it is giving me an invalid file error.)
I am making no where near the 850hp that they said this torque converter is good for, and multiple talks with them on the phone are getting me nowhere. They say it sounds like the converter may be hurt, I sent it in. I get it back and the converter seemed differet (the sprag seemed better) but it still slips to nearly 5grand.
Any insight would be appreciated.......I may end up calling PTC, ATI, or Neal Chance and getting another converter, but I would still like to know what is causing this.
Thanks,
Joe
